United came into the game without a win in their last 5 games, playing against local rivals Ingleton in what promised to be a thriller.

It was Ingleton who came out of the blocks the quickest scoring after just 2 minutes. After the early setback United came back stronger with some great play, Kilburn and Drake really started to dictate play and it wasn’t long before united had created their first big chance of the game, Barton with some great footwork out wide managed to cross the ball to the arriving Gowland at the back post but he put the shot just wide.

United continued to put pressure on the Ingleton defence and that paid off on the half hour mark when Davidson got the goal settle deserved.

United didn’t stop there adding another goal a few minutes later after a great run by Gowland down the wing and squaring it to Barton in the middle for an easy tap in. With a few minutes to go until half time Barton picked up a loose ball 25 yards out and fires a screamer into the top corner.

The second half began with United having a deserved lead and it was Settle who started the strongest, Davidson cutting in from the right hand side before sliding a great ball through to Gowland who put the ball past the out coming goalkeeper only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.

Ingleton then started to play and they were causing the United defence a few problems, but United stood up to it and it was only a superb volley that could break them down. After this set back united got back to playing and it wasn’t long before they created another great chance, once again it was Gowland running at the defence and after beating his man he delivered a great cross into Martinkus who fired just wide.

United continued to put pressure on the Ingleton defence and won themselves a free kick on the edge of the box. Dan Mellor stepped up to take the free kick, a great strike on goal but it was saved by the goalkeeper who palmed it straight into the path of Barton who had another tap in to complete his hat trick.

United showed great character to get their first win after a disappointing start to the season, With a youthful team it was great performance and a very good win.
