United Reserves had their first home game of the season, hosting Cowling FC first team in search of their first points after a disappointing start to the season.
The very youthful reserves started on the front foot with some great passages of play but they couldn’t make them count in the final third.
Cowling hit back with some good play but rarely tested the young goalkeeper will Smith. Settle finally got their chance. After a long ball over the top in search of Ben Barton, the ball was handled by the Cowling defender gifting settle a penalty. Up stepped Matthew Cardus, he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner past the diving goalkeeper. Settle were then on top for the remainder of the half but couldn’t get that 2nd goal.
The 2nd half began and Cowling came racing out of the blocks causing Settle all sorts of problems and soon had an equaliser. Settle had to make a change so Harry Parsons came on looking to make the difference. Parsons started very well causing the defenders problems with tricky footwork but once again United couldn’t make it count. A quick fire double from Cowling stunned Settle and they were now chasing the game.
Settle then struggled to get back to playing with Cowling continuing to trouble the United keeping. Settle manager Al Smith brought on winger Jack Wild and target man Liam Stubbs to try and save the game but it was to no avail and Cowling added two more goals before the final whistle.
